Welcome
On behalf of Australian and New Zealand harpists, harp professionals and harp enthusiasts, it is my great pleasure to invite you to the next World Harp Congress in Sydney in 2014.
Come and experience Australia’s renowned hospitality and friendliness, and be surprised by the wealth of our cultural diversity, our love of music, and our openness to original and diverse expression in the arts. We are honoured and excited to host this wonderful event for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Congress Program highlights the harp’s broad and versatile repertoire, featuring all genres of music, from the harp’s folk origins, through to early and traditional classical, jazz, and the most adventurous contemporary experimental music, with concerts presentations and lectures. In addition to the familiar World Harp Congress Master Classes and Focus on Youth programs, we will have many active participation workshops for all levels of player, a stream for presentation of academic papers, and of course a highlight on music from our own Australian and New Zealand composers and performers.
The Congress will be held right in the heart of Sydney, where old and new meet and intermingle, in Congress venues from the iconic Sydney Opera House Concert Hall to the beautiful Colonial Sydney Town Hall, from the Four Seasons Hotel and Garrison Church located in the historic Rocks area to the superb acoustics of City Recital Hall Angel Place. The ‘Harp Lounge’ at the Sydney Dance CafĂ© on the harbor-side, will feature special contemporary programs in the evening and blackboard performances all day.
See you soon, ‘Down Under’!
